Mac + iPhone + VR headset

Your Mac, floating around you.

Slide your iPhone into a VR headset and your Mac becomes giant monitors that stay where you put them. Work, watch, and hear every screen from where it is.

Set up once

Three steps, five minutes.

Get Floatdesk for your Mac

Free from floatdesk.app/mac. A small menu-bar app that shares only the screens and windows you pick, after you approve.

2 · iPhone

Pair by scanning a code

Point your iPhone at the code once. After that it finds your Mac on its own over Wi-Fi.

3 · Headset

Slide it into a VR headset

Any VR headset for iPhone works, even Google Cardboard, or hold it full screen. Pair a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard with your iPhone once; the cursor moves between monitors in 3D.

What you get

A spatial desk, built for real work.

Everything happens inside the headset. You never take your phone out to change a setting.

All your monitors

Your Mac screen plus any windows, side by side. Pull one app out and give it its own monitor anywhere around you.

Up to 4 screens

Spatial audio that follows your head

Each monitor's sound comes from where it is. Turn your head and the video on your left stays on your left.

Any earbuds

Curve, tilt, resize

Grab a handle to curve a monitor around you, tilt it, resize it or push it away. Double-click a handle to reset it.

Text you can read

Sharper streams your Mac's own Retina pixels. Larger Mac text makes everything bigger for the session and restores itself after.

Record your view

Stabilized videos and screenshots of what you see, in landscape or vertical, saved to Photos.

Rooms to work in

A dark room, a beach, or space. Your monitors float in it while the rest of the world fades out.

A dock at your feet

Glance down for the dock: settings, add a window, record, Cinema. Right-click in empty space to bring it to you.

Stays smooth, stays cool

Screens that do not change send nothing new, a hot phone lowers resolution to cool down, and a dropped link reconnects on its own.

Cinema

Pick your seat.

One monitor becomes a giant screen, the room dims and its edges glow. Choose how much of your view it fills.

Benchmarks

Measured, not promised.

Every number below comes from long real sessions logged on a MacBook Air (M1) and an iPhone 15 Pro Max over home Wi-Fi, Release builds, with several monitors open.

Private by design

Your screen never leaves your room.

Your Mac and iPhone pair in person and talk directly over your Wi-Fi, encrypted end to end. There is no account and no server in between.

  • Pair in person. Scan a code on your Mac once. Only that iPhone can connect.
  • You approve every share. The Mac asks before a window or screen is shown, and before the iPhone can control it.
  • Nothing is recorded for us. Diagnostics stay on your devices unless you choose to send them. Screen contents and typing are never logged.
  • Remove a device any time from the Mac app, and it is cut off at once.
Never take the headset off

Everything is in the room with you.

Mouse and keyboard, in 3D

Connect a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to your iPhone. The cursor travels across every monitor around you; shake the mouse to find it. Mac shortcuts work.

Settings you can reach

Quality, rooms, sound and monitors live in a menu that floats in front of you. Sliders snap back to where you were.

Recenter in a click

Lean back on the sofa or turn your chair: recenter and the whole desk follows you.

Questions

Good to know.

What do I need?

A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 14 or later, an iPhone with iOS 17 or later, a VR headset for iPhone (or full screen in your hand), and a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard paired with the iPhone. Earbuds make spatial audio shine.

Which headsets work?

Any VR headset made for phones (often sold as VR headsets for iPhone), from Google Cardboard to padded ones with a strap, as long as it fits your iPhone. No headset? Use full screen in your hand. Floatdesk calibrates to your headset's lenses once and remembers it.

Is it like Apple Vision Pro's Mac Virtual Display?

It gives you the same idea, your Mac as big floating screens, using an iPhone you already own instead of a separate headset computer. Floatdesk adds windows as their own monitors, Cinema seats and spatial audio per screen.

Does my screen go anywhere online?

No. Your Mac and iPhone talk directly over your own Wi-Fi, encrypted end to end, after you pair them in person by scanning a code. Nothing passes through a server.

Where do I connect my mouse and keyboard?

To your iPhone, over Bluetooth, once in iPhone Settings. Floatdesk uses them for the 3D cursor, the dock and menus in the room, and sends your typing and clicks to the Mac.

Can I use my Mac normally at the same time?

Yes. Floatdesk mirrors your Mac and the windows you choose; the Mac's own trackpad and keyboard keep working. In the headset you use the mouse and keyboard paired with your iPhone.

Do I need internet?

No. Both devices only need to be on the same Wi-Fi network; nothing goes through the internet.

How sharp is the text?

On Sharper quality your Mac screen is streamed at its own Retina pixels, 2560 by 1600 on a MacBook Air. Larger Mac text makes everything bigger for the session and puts your Mac back afterwards.

How long does the battery last?

Three to five hours on a full iPhone charge in our test sessions. Floatdesk warns you before your iPhone or Mac runs low.

Will my phone get hot?

Floatdesk watches the phone's temperature and lowers resolution before it gets uncomfortable. Long Cinema sessions run cooler unplugged.

Can I watch movies?

Yes. Cinema turns any monitor into a giant screen from Living room to IMAX size, dims the room and lets the screen's edges glow. The sound comes from the screen.

What happens if Wi-Fi drops?

Floatdesk notices within a few seconds and reconnects by itself, with your monitors where you left them.

Can I record what I see?

Yes. Record stabilized videos and screenshots of your view, landscape or vertical, with your Mac's sound, saved to Photos.

What is the Founders edition?

A one-time purchase for Pro forever, at the lowest price Floatdesk will have. It ends on 15 December. Founders keep every feature and room added later.

Does it work with Windows or Android?

Not today. Floatdesk is built for Mac and iPhone.
